setting up shop

Yesterday I arrived at the place I'll be spending my summer: my apartment in Redmond. Check it out:

I like that our living room has a giant window

This is bigger than my bed at home!

My roommate came in today, so yesterday I had the place to myself. First order of business? FOOD.

The worst part about moving in to a new apartment (or dorm or house or anywhere really) is the empty fridge and pantry. :( Luckily I had an apple to eat so I wasn't going to Safeway completely starving.

I bought so. much. stuff.

Actually that's not really true. I don't have nearly as much food as I might prefer, and the selection is a bit limited. But 60 things including laundry stuff, dishwasher stuff, shampoo, mouthwash, soap, and food comes out to almost $200. o___o Those $3 and $5 items sure add up quickly don't they? Good thing I chose cheap varieties over name brand where I could, or else this would be even more painful.

A hard receipt to swallow...
The bright side is that since I'm starting from scratch it's easier for me to make sure I am eating relatively healthy. Last summer I had no car, so meals for the weekends were whatever frozen or prepackaged meals I could fit in my backpack after a 2 mile walk to the closest grocery store. Thank goodness Google had some good eats for lunch and dinner, or I might have eaten an ungodly number of hotpockets...

Tomorrow I start at Microsoft! Not entirely sure what the day holds for us, but it's exciting to finally meet my manager and other interns.
